Anniversary exhibition Bicentenary – Herend

Anniversary exhibition Bicentenary – Herend

2026. June 2.

The porcelain exhibition entitled “Bicentenary – Herend” was ceremonially opened on May 29th at the Herend Porcelain Museum.

The exhibition presents the rich history and artistic heritage of the two-hundred-year-old Herend Porcelain Manufactory displaying approximately five hundred works.

Dr. Mihály Pósfai, the new President of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, gave a welcome speech at the opening, highlighting that tradition and innovation are both defining values in the world of science and Herend porcelain art.

The exhibition was opened by CEO Dr. Attila Simon. In his ceremonial speech, he emphasized that Herend’s success is built on respect for traditions, expertise passed down through generations, and continuous renewal. As he put it, the Manufactory has been proving for two hundred years that artisanal values and innovation are not opposites, but rather mutually reinforcing factors.

He emphasized that the anniversary exhibition is not only a look back at the achievements of the past, but also a message for the future. The exhibition presents all those creators, masters and communities whose work has contributed to Herend becoming one of the most well-known international brands of Hungarian culture and applied arts. He said that the exhibition, arranged in four rooms, guides visitors through the most important periods in the history of the Manufactory: from the period of the founders Vince Stingl and Mór Fischer, through the masterpieces presented at world’s fairs, to contemporary, innovative works.

As one of the highlights of the bicentennial program series, the exhibition celebrates the world-renowned heritage of Hungarian porcelain art.
