Herend porcelain exhibition at Bogenšperk Castle in Slovenia

Herend porcelain exhibition at Bogenšperk Castle in Slovenia

2025. April 17.

The first Herend exhibition of the year was ceremoniously opened yesterday and can be visited until mid-June in Slovenia’s picturesque Renaissance castle.

In an almost untouched, beautiful environment close to the Slovenian capital, there is a real little jewel box, which has now become the home of nearly 300 Herend porcelain works for several months.

This exhibition presents a small taste of Herend porcelain products, a national value recognized as Hungaricum and respected as part of the Hungarian Heritage, the European Cultural Heritage, and the Hungarian national image, in the Renaissance Bogenšperk Castle, a prominent cultural monument of Slovenia. The title of the exhibition, Tradition-Innovation, is revealing, as “Tradition” comes to life in a room of the castle furnished with period furniture, as if time had stopped and we were traveling back to the 19th century. Period-accurate Herend porcelain evokes the lifestyle of the nobility in a period-accurate interior. In contrast, “Innovation”, which is crucial to the operation of the Manufactory, takes its place in the adjacent circular room. Masterpieces, modernity, and the development history of famous decorations are on display. Of course, there is no Herend exhibition without a beautifully laid table, this time the most famous pattern, the decoration named after the English Queen Victoria and its variations are a reason for admiration!

At the opening ceremony, the guests were welcomed by Dr. Attila Simon, CEO of Herend Porcelain Manufactory Ltd. Mr. Blaž Izlakar, the mayor of the town, spoke highly of the exhibition and said that it is an honour for them that the world-famous Manufactory chose the castle as the venue for its exhibition.

The opening ceremony was honoured with the presence of Ferenc Andor Dávid, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Hungary to Slovenia, who also officially opened the exhibition as chief patron.

The event was also enriched by a painting demonstration.
