Spa Culture During the Monarchy

2025. April 28.

A new, special exhibition opened in the temporary exhibition space of the Herend Porcelain Museum, entitled "Spa Culture During the Monarchy".

The exhibition takes visitors back to the world of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, showing how the use of thermal baths, the consumption of thermal waters, and the related travels and collection of relics became increasingly popular in the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.

The opening ceremony was honoured with the presence of Eva Dvořáková, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Hungary. In her speech, she emphasized that the richness of thermal waters and porcelain production both connect the historical past of Hungary and the Czech Republic. She paid great respect to the unique art of Herend porcelain.

Dr. Attila Simon, CEO of Herend Porcelain Manufactory, emphasized in his speech that the unparalleled product range of Herend porcelain includes all the objects that were once part of the spa culture and that can still be found in Herend’s product assortment to this day. He also pointed out that Czech craftsmen played a significant role in starting Herend porcelain production.

The exhibition objects were made available to the Museum by private collector Máté Zimonyi, thereby enriching the authentic and special material of the exhibition.
